• In the evocative Virtual Reality piece entitled "Fragments of Memory... Portions of Pain," I endeavor to transport the viewer into the depths of my personal experience. Drawing inspiration from the poignant image in the the series “When you think of me…” called "In the Shadow of Tradition," this immersive environment brings to life the park bench where I frequently find solace during my most profound moments of sorrow. Though I often revisit this haven in my mind, I struggle to faithfully recreate it in its entirety.

Utilizing the cutting-edge technique of photogrammetry, I meticulously reconstructed the park from fragmented memories, crafting an all-encompassing, life-sized VR landscape. The resulting scene, tinged with a dystopian ambiance, underscores my efforts to piece together memories and places embedded in my psyche. Yet, in my quest to mentally reconstruct the park, I invariably omit minute details, prompting me to question the veracity and precision of my own recollections. Are my cherished memories faithful to the individuals, locales, and emotions encountered? Memories often serve as a foundation for our life's decisions, illuminating moral triumphs and providing frameworks to emulate. But do the ethical principles they put forth truly exist, or are they mere constructs of my imagination?

Renowned author Virginia Woolf once said, "Memory is the seamstress, and a capricious one at that. Memory runs her needle in and out, up and down, hither and thither. We know not what comes next, or what follows after." This quote underlines the inherent inaccuracy of memory and our inability to rely solely on recollection.

Similarly, neuroscientist and author Daniel J. Levitin posited, "Our memory is not like a video camera that's recording everything. It's a reconstructive process. We're constantly updating and changing our memories." This statement elucidates the ever-shifting nature of our memories, and our tendency to unconsciously modify them as time passes.

By weaving together these insightful reflections on the fallibility of memory, "Fragments of Memory... Portions of Pain" invites the audience to confront the authenticity of their own recollections, while exploring the mutable nature of the human experience.
